A high school teacher and youth worker share their stories

Understanding what they’re going through, finding the right words, and having the courage to ask for help: the workshops offered by Youth in Mind Foundation give young people tools for taking care of their mental health.

At their school, Tuvarake and Amelie are seeing the effects firsthand. Some students start being more supportive of one another once they realize they aren’t the only ones experiencing anxiety, isolation, or depression. Others relate to the examples presented and find the courage to talk to an adult after the workshop.

More compassion, less isolation

“After the workshop, I noticed that my students were much more compassionate toward their classmates who were going through a hard time.”
— Tuvarake, Culture and Citizenship in Québec Teacher, secondary 1 and 5

For Amelie, a Personal Development and Community Engagement Facilitator (ADPEC) at a secondary school, these workshops also help break the cycle of isolation:

“When we’re isolated, we suffer alone. The workshop helps open the door so students can reach out for help and connect with others.”
